Are we human or are we hearing wrong?

The Killer's are a cool band. I just don't get them though. Ther hit, human, is very popular among my friends but I still don't actually understand the song.

The chorus is extremely vague
Are we human?
Or are we dancers?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancers?

ok so with poetic licence you can create all sorts of metaphors, like dancer's not being huma. What has that got to do with your sign being vital? To me this whole passage merely screams, " I am stoned and freaking out!"

let me know what other songs you think are lost in space somewhere.

  1. I think he's asking a question - are we human in the sense of having an existence as we all experience it here, on earth, kids, food, motorcars, houses, culture etc or do we have souls, free of our bodies and this life, dancers, with their own battles to fight etc. And we have to live our soul's lives as well
    (be aware of our souls).
He reckons his 'signs are vital' but his hands are cold - so that would be an alive dead human, which is a soul, spirit whatever....?

  2. it is stupid and it does fail dancers are humans so basically he is saying "Are we human or are we human?" which does not fit into the tune and doesn't make sense....it would of been a lot better if it was "Are we human? or are we denser?"
